Privacy Policy

Overview

FuelTheGuide is a client-side web application. All price comparison, filtering, and calculation runs entirely in your browser. We do not operate servers that process personal data, and we do not collect, store, or sell any information that identifies you.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect:

• Names, email addresses, or account credentials (there are no accounts)
• Location data beyond what your browser locale exposes for default currency/country selection
• Payment information (the service is free)
• Browsing history or cross-site tracking identifiers

Browser storage

The application uses your browser's localStorage to persist your theme preference (light or dark) across sessions. It uses IndexedDB to cache fuel price and currency rate data fetched from the OpenVan API, so repeated visits load faster without re-fetching. None of this data leaves your device.

You can clear this data at any time through your browser's developer tools or site settings. Clearing it has no effect other than resetting your theme preference and requiring a fresh API fetch on next load.

URL state

When you configure the price explorer (countries, fuel grade, currency, unit), your selections are reflected in the page URL as query parameters. This allows you to share a specific view via a link. No data is sent to any server as a result — the URL is read and written entirely client-side.

Third-party data source

Fuel price and currency rate data is fetched at runtime from the OpenVan API (openvan.camp). When your browser makes this request, OpenVan's servers will see your IP address as part of the standard HTTP request. Please refer to OpenVan's own privacy policy for how they handle those requests. The data is licensed CC BY 4.0.

Analytics

We do not currently use any analytics service, advertising network, or third-party tracking script. If this changes, this policy will be updated before the change takes effect.

Cookies

FuelTheGuide does not set any cookies. Browser storage (localStorage and IndexedDB) is used instead of cookies for the limited persistence described above.

Children's privacy

This service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
